Touch Generations – It’s Spreading! (#1)

August 5, 2006

Hey everyone!  I’ve decided that I’ll be spreading the games and idea of the Touch Generations lineup to all the people I know, and actually even to people I don’t know.  This means my relatives, my friends, my neighbors, and even beyond!  But will I be successful?  Witness my outings and attempts to get non-gamers to get into games!  This will most likely be a series of threads, and hopefully you stick around for each installment.

Animal Crossing Movie

August 4, 2006

The following user submitted article, written by our good friend, Minority – he’s written up a general overview of the upcoming Animal Crossing movie, which currently does not have a US release date. Seeing the success of Animal Crossing: Wild World, however, it seems like a no-brainer that we’ll eventually see a localized release. Read on for the article…

Why I Will Like the Virtual Console

July 22, 2006

When the Wii comes out, millions of people are going to download millions of classic games on the Virtual Console. Will I be one of those people? Maybe.

You’re probably thinking I’m crazy right about now. My SNES and N64 collections each consist of over 40 games, and I’m looking to fill in some gaps in those collections. You’d think the best way to do so would be purchasing the games off of the Virtual Console, of course.

The Quiet Before The Storm

July 21, 2006

*Note: This will be written only considering facts from North America (titles released, release dates, etc).

Each transition from one console generation to the next has its own characteristics. Last time around, back 5 or 6 years, one system suddenly died and one prospered. The Playstation finished strong with titles such as Syphon Filter 3, Chrono Cross (sequel to possibly the best RPG of all-time), Final Fantasy IX (possibly the best FF game of all-time), and more, all in the half a year prior to the launch of the PS2 and soon thereafter. On the other hand, the N64 just rolled over and died. A system as great as the N64 deserved a much grander exit, but that was not the case. On May 7, 2001, Mario Party 3 was released for the N64. IGN was quoted, “The game that could be the last of the Nintendo-published titles on the N64 has shipped.” Not only that, but it also signified the end of a great era. For the next 6 months, N64 owners were enjoying their favorite oldies, nothing new whatsoever. Any major games in development for the N64 were then moved to be released on Gamecube, with some being great (Animal Crossing) and and some being duds (Star Fox Adventures).

Brain Age , Truly Amazing

June 28, 2006

Earlier today, I downloaded the Brain Age demo to my DS from Best Buy.  So, I played it for an hour or so, and it was very enjoyable.  The sudoku was fun, the math problems were a bit easy, and other than some ‘blue’ issues, everything was fine.  When I got home, I let my brother play.  He too enjoyed it.  But, this came as no surprise, as both of us play videogames a lot and were looking forward to playing this game. Graphics can be innovative, too!

June 28, 2006

It’s unbearably obvious that a lot of people think that nowadays, without the Wii controller, gaming isn’t possible at all. And if a new system does have the old traditional controller, then games will be “stale”, ideas will be reused, and more. While this is true to some degree, it’s not entirely true. Even though it’s not blatantly obvious, graphics fuel innovation as well. Innovative hardware like the Wii controller is merely another path.

Wii60 And PSWii

June 26, 2006

Introduction

Quite recently, both Peter Moore (Corporate Vice President in the Interactive Entertainment Business Division of Microsoft) and Phil Harrison (Executive Vice President, Sony Computer Entertainment) have recommended that their core gamers go out and buy themselves a Wii as their second console. While this may seem like good publicity for Nintendo, it’s not quite that; It’s actually an implied statement that they both don’t regard Nintendo as competition. Whether that is good or bad is yet to be seen.
